Head Master's Message
Science School is a small private prep school whose name signifies the Philosophy of "onward and upward" with regard to success in Education.

We are interested in maximizing the potential creatively, as well as academically, of all of our students. To that end we stress small class sizes and individualized attention for greater and more rapid mastery in all subjects.
We employ an interdisciplinary approach. Reading and writing skills, for example, are taught not only in English classes, but also in science and history as well. Likewise, math concepts are covered in science, economics and other courses when relevant. In addition, SAT /ACT prep are covered within the framework of the regular high school English and math classes, as well as in after hours elective courses. This allows the students a greater familiarity with (and a greater success in Taking) College Board tests when they are preparing to apply for the best colleges.
Our educational philosophy works not only for high achievers, but also for those who have the ability to succeed, but who have not had a proper educational atmosphere which allowed for that outcome.
We truly believe and have demonstrated by our sat scores and our students' records of acceptances to many distinguished colleges and universities that every Science School student can be successful.
Head Master
Md. Abu Sayeed Bhuiyan

History

Science School was created to educate children from families of limited means, and provide them with training for “the heart, head and hand.” The school was opened in 1946 as one of the four technical High School by then Pakistan Government a Pilot Project Govt.
Technical High School , Tejgaon by name.. In 1962 this School was turned in to Intermediate Technical College and the post of Head Master was upgraded to Principal. As a consequence then Head Master Mr. Abdur Razzak acted both as Headmaster and Principal for a long period of 18 years. Afterwards the Principals performed all the duties of the Head of the Institute. In 2001 the school with its management and administrative authority separated due to a Government Order to run the school more smoothly and the Head Master performed the administrative duties and responsibilities along with the Drawing and Disbursing Officer. Mrs Rijia Khanam officiated as the first Head Master of the School.
In 1992 Government introduced double shift in 62 Govt High School and accordingly Govt Science School attached High School also came under double shift scheme. The early years of the school were marked by fast growth and hard work. A residence Quarter constructed on the campus, for the Head Master. Students were expected to help earn their keep by working in various capacities on the campus.

By the 1960's, The Government Technical School (as it was known) established itself as a fully Technical school. Students who graduated were accepted by any college in Bangladesh. During this time, the campus expanded to more buildings, including two dormitories for the students, and the formidable years after the Liberation War, the school continued to grow and earn a new standing as a national boarding school. Lower school
Academics
Science School, it is our desire to stimulate minds and instill a joy for learning in children that will last a lifetime. The pre-school and elementary school years are a time for students to develop a strong academic foundation in a positive, nurturing environment. The Lower School (grade 1 through Grade 5) curriculum is designed by the government to fulfill the expectations of the nation and the peoples, therefore students are continually learning at an accelerated level.
Our language arts program providing our students with a comprehensive language arts experience. The thorough nature of the program provides instruction in reading, grammar-syntax, vocabulary-spelling, and writing within the overall language arts objectives at each grade level. There is also a consistency in the format of the curriculum from grade level to grade level that will make for a positive transition as our students progress each year.
Our math curriculum approaches to basic mathematic concepts. It also offers a continuing review of previously learned concepts throughout the entire year. Again, the comprehensive nature of this program allows our students an easy transition from grade level to grade level, even into the Junior School Level with Saxon Math being used in the sixth and seventh grades.
The Lower School science curriculum is based on Science and Technology for Children published by NCTB. The Science and Technology for Children curriculum provides hands-on experiences to engage elementary students in the process of science education. This curriculum introduces students to life, earth, physical science, and technology at the Kindergarten through fifth grade levels. Developed by leaders in the field of both science and education from the National Level, this curriculum was created to raise the level of science teaching by motivating children with interesting age-appropriate experimentation.
Nature, Environment, Culture and struggle for Independence is the basis of our social studies program. Beginning in grade 1 and progressing through fifth grade, our students will learn about neighborhoods, communities, states and regions, history of Bangladesh, Bangladesh government, world history, world cultures, geography, and current events. This curriculum provides broad-based, age-appropriate instruction, with hands-on activities to reinforce concepts and skills.

Upper School
Academics
The Science School upper division (Secondary Level) consists of Grades 6, 7, 8,9 and 10 At the Upper School of Science School, the faculty and staff are committed to continue to develop the academic foundation and maintain the excitement for education that was instilled at the Lower School division. The upper School curriculum is designed to foster maximum growth in the intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, physical, and cultural areas. Every effort is made to understand each student’s particular learning style. The teachers use visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile teaching methods in the classrooms in order to engage, motivate, and stimulate each student. Upper School students will be expected to be more independent and accept more responsibilities as they grow. The Upper School experiences are planned with the knowledge of where the students have been at the Lower School and where they will be going as members of the Upper School division.
During the sixth grade year, much emphasis is placed on the student's need to develop a good academic background in the areas of language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. Foreign language, art, music after-school activities, character education, study skills, life skills, and library are also part of the curriculum. The core curriculum at the sixth grade level is presented in a self-contained classroom with materials being presented by one of the sixth grade teachers with a wide range of learning opportunities being offered.

During the seventh and eighth grade years, each student is offered a wide range of learning opportunities. Much emphasis is placed on the student's need to develop a good academic background in the areas of English, mathematics, social studies, and science. Foreign language, art, music after-school activities, Upper School sports, character education, study skills, life skills, and library are also part of the curriculum. Students at these grade levels are involved in changing classes during a seven period day schedule with different instructors teaching each of the core and the enrichment classes.
The comprehensive nature of the English Language Lab/Club provides instruction in reading, grammar-syntax, vocabulary-spelling, and writing within the English objectives. The language arts curriculum uses a literature textbook to expose the students to many different genres of writings and authors which is grade level appropriate. The students use a grammar workbook to improve the students' understanding of punctuation and sentence structure.
Our upper School mathematics curriculum consists of courses in General Math which includes Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry for grades six .to eight. General Math and Higher Math(Advanced Math) which includes Algebra, and Geometry Trigonometry andmaturation for grades nine and ten. The program offers a very thorough approach from the basic mathematics concepts. The comprehensive nature of the mathematics program meets the needs of each student. It also allows our students to easily transition from one level of mathematics to the next level within the Middle School division and then into the Upper School division.
Our science curriculum in the Upper School is both exciting and hands-on. The grade nine and ten course is a laboratory-based inquiry course in which students spend a considerable portion of their class time doing experiments to investigate first hand how nature behaves. Sample topics include characteristic prosperities, sizes and masses of molecules and atoms. These grades course is also a life science course that concentrates on the study of living things from the microscopic to the macroscopic. Laboratory work compliments each unit studied. Sample topics include cell structure and human body systems. The eighth grade course is a physical science inquiry course that focuses on some of the basic ideas of physics and provides insight into the way scientific knowledge is acquired. Students are required to keep a well-organized laboratory notebook. During the laboratory experiments the students work independently or in group of 5-7 for collaborative learning. The Upper School science curriculum satisfies the National Science Curriculum guidelines.
Our social studies curriculum at the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades level provide standards-based content developed from the latest research centered around the themes of economics, citizenship, geography, social studies skills, government, history, and cultures of various civilizations. It also emphasizes on the social studies curriculum that exposes the students to the five fundamental themes of geography which are location, place, regions, movement, and human-environment interaction. The six essential elements of geography teach the students how to understand, maintain, and improve the human, cultural, and geographic landscape. At the eighth grade level, the social studies curriculum deals with the following eight units: Bangladesh Beginnings. A Growing Bangladesh, The Changing Nation, A World in Crisis, Postwar Bangladesh, Searching for Solutions, and Modern Bangladesh. The five themes of: geography, economics, government, citizenship, and science, technology, and society are woven into each chapter to give the students a thorough understanding of history of Bangladesh.

At the Upper School from grades sixth to ninth according to School Based Assessment (SBA) Method students experience a variety of activities and curriculum related field trips are instituted to enhance the learning experience, foster independence, develop responsibility, and increase self-control. Much emphasis is placed on the student's need to develop good organizational skills and study habits that will facilitate future success in the Upper School.
Besides our school has been included under the project of TQI-SEP (Teaching Quality Improvement in Secondary Sector) which emphasize on interactive/participatory methods to teach the students in the classes. The main theme of this method is to make the students more attentive and make the teaching and learning attractive and bore less. In this method learning is made more attractive and effective for learners by using suitable teaching aids.
